A new look...& Merry Christmas!

Like the new look of my blog?

It's official. I have officially gained 4 pounds this holiday season. Between the Thanksgiving, the cruise and now holiday parties and family gatherings, I have packed on 4 wonderful pounds. I'm miserable. And people keep offering me food! Jason says we are going to wait until January 2nd to start dieting, but I started on the excercise bike today. I biked 10 miles in 40 minutes earlier today and I'm about to go do it again when I get through writing this. We have to get through one more family Christmas gathering and then New Year's eve and then the fatty meals should stop. Ugh....I can't bear another casserole, ham or turkey. Don't get me wrong, the food has been delicious and I have enjoyed it way too much! I'm just so sick of eating I could scream!

I hope everyone is having a wonderful Christmas with their families! Thanks for reading and I look forward to everything that 2008 has to bring!

Just a little something

The 31 website is up and running now....check it out if you get a chance!

I'm SOOOooo tired this morning! I use the term "morning" loosely as it is already almost 11am! Last night was our annual ZTA Christmas Party and I stayed too late as girls do when they haven't seen each other in a while! I had been looking forward to the get together for a while and it was so nice to see all of you last night! What a spread we had t00- I am still full from eating too much yummy food! (and a little drowsy from too much yummy wine....)

Also, I mentioned this last night, but I wanted to go ahead and prepare everyone for January 26th. You will be getting invitations either through the mail or email (or both) inviting you to my Spring Preview Party! You will be able to come and have first dibs on all of my Spring 08 line before it goes in the store and before it is available online. FUN! If you are interested in attending, let me know and I'll be sure an invite gets sent your way!

Another new thing I wanted to go ahead and mention is the Quarterly Photo Contest! Email photos of your child wearing a Sweet Dreams Designs item for my photo contest! Beginning in January, every three months one winner will receive a $20.00 gift certificate good towards any purchase from my online store! Winner will be chosen by a poll conducted on my blog and all photos will be published in the photo gallery. Winners will be chosen for the following months:
March, June, September, December
Winning photo will be featured on the homepage!

OK, as I wrap this up, I have to mention that there is a deafening siren going through my neighborhood right now. It has been running for almost half an hour now - it's SANTA on a firetruck! That's right - he's in MY neighborhood right now! Jealous?

My favorite thing so far is the thermal totes - for lunch, etc.

My website should be up and running by tomorrow evening, but I wanted to go ahead and tell you about their 70% off sale that lasts through Sunday. The sale items cannot be personalized, but they super inexpensive right now and you can always take them to a local shop if you'd like to have them done. Most of the items they offer are not items that my machine can handle or else I would offer to do it for you myself.

It is pretty cool because you can select the fabric you want, the font you want, and the thread color. So, it is similar to my site in that you can customize your bags the way you want them. Anyway, like I said my site should be up tomorrow night and you can get to it by going to:

The 70% off sale willl be under Inventory Sale. If you have any questions let me know and I will try my best to answer or find someone who can!

We're baaaaaaaaack!

Well, we have returned from our cruise where we got some much needed rest - about 12 hours a night! Two nights out of four we went to bed at 8pm and woke at 8am! The rest of the time we were busy falling all over the ship due to some storm somewhere. Some of you heard from me while I was gone and have already heard about the barf bags taped to walls and dishes crashing in the dining room. At times we felt like we were on the titanic! Cozumel was great. When we got there at around 8am, it was pretty overcast, but it warmed up and the sun came out as the day progressed. We went snorkeling - or at least Jason did. Once my feet couldn't touch the bottom anymore, I went to shore! The water was freezing and I was gasping for breath and got a little scared. Afterwards we went on a tour to the mayan ruins and saw crocodiles, dozens of iguanas just running around, beautiful turquoise water and wonderul views from the lighthouse. After the tour we went to a local restaurant and at some REAL Mexican food! Yummy. After lunch we walked through the ghetto to get downtown to the shopping district and bought a few fun little things. Mexican Vanilla, a magnet that I watched a man fingerpaint for me, a tshirt for Jason, some guava candy, and some TEQUILA of course!

The next day/night was a little slow on the boat. The waters were too rough for anyone to perform on stage so all of the shows were canceled. We had already lost too much money in the casino, so that was out. I'm not real sure what we did.....ate? Ummm....yeah - I consumed more calories before noon every day than I do in any given day at home! The food was delicious though. We ate in the dining room almost every night - yum!

Well, we are home now and it was back to work immediately! Yesterday I finished up some Christmas shopping and today I still have a little more to do.

Enjoy a few pics and in case I don't write again - Happy Holidays!

Bon Voyage!

Hello neglected little blog readers!

As some of you know I have been incredibly busy this past week or two! It has definitely paid off though. As of Thursday, my clothing and accessories are now being carried in a boutique in Clanton, Alabama! The boutique is fairly new and is called Southern Belles Boutique. I am SO excited about it and I really think it is going to work out great. The owner of the boutique has been very easy to work with and I sold three outfits in the first two days! On Friday and Saturday alone I was able to crank out 12 outfits for the boutique's open house that was held on Sunday. I haven't checked back in on the success of the open house, but I hope things went well.

Since getting home from Clanton Sunday evening I haven't even laid eyes on my sewing machine! Last night I got some much needed rest - went to bed at 9 and woke up at 8! Today was such a productive day, but still no sewing! Got my car detailed for the first time since I bought it last November. For some reason just doing that alone has made me feel so much better! I went to the vet to pick up Paris and Bella's Santa pictures - not great for the second year in a row. What can I expect from those two though? Last but not least, I got a pedicure to get ready for our cruise! I still have a lot to do before we leave Thursday morning but today I feel really good - like I actually got some things accomplished! I really thought that by this time I would be pretty insane with all the things I need to do before we leave. Ahhhhh....relief! What a feeling!

I have been making lots of candy for my "get to know the neighbors" project. Jason and I really don't know anybody in our neighborhood and it is really sad. I am sure there are lots of reasons why we don't, but it is sad nonetheless. When we lived in Cahaba Heights I knew the first and last names of almost all of my neighbors. We talked to each other, ate dinner together, and have remained friends with some of them since we moved. In Forest Parks, however, I know the first and last names of one of our neighbors. It took 6 months for the welcoming committee to "welcome" us. I know everyone is so busy and we don't have kids and we are younger than most of our neighbors. We haven't exactly made much of an effort either. That is all about to change though. I am making little goodie boxes for as many neighbors as I can - filling them with peanut butter balls, peppermint bark, morsel candy and maybe some cookies too if I can fit that in my schedule!

Now, as for the cruise it has been hard to get too terribly excited thus far, but I think the excitement is coming on now. I think I may have talked Jason into packing his suit and going to the "captain's dinner" on the dress up night. I mean, is it too much for a girl to ask to have a nice dressy dinner with her husband? I think not! I hope we will have lots of fun pictures to share when we get back. Maybe something cute to put on next year's Christmas cards. Hopefully by this time next year I'll be huge and pregnant and I can look back on this year's cruise pictures and remember what my waistline looked like!

Ok, well you should be pretty caught up by now. Maybe I'll get some computer time on the cruise! Until then - Bon Voyage!

Silent night

Well, it has been pretty quiet around here today. Jason has been out of town meeting some people about a job prospect....he should be here in about an hour so I thought I would take this time to write.

Today has been a mix of lounging and productivity. Clean some here....shower....email....work on the website....laundry...decorate the tree...write out Christmas cards. Ok, so more productivity than I thought! Not a bit of sewing though.

Argh...speaking of Christmas trees...when did they become such a hassle? I used to enjoy the tree. All of it. From picking it out to the lights and decorations, it was always pleasant and fun. Maybe it's just from getting older, but it has been like pulling teeth trying to get anything done "Christmas-wise" around this house. Pulling Jason's teeth that is! I really thought that having an artificial tree this year would really help matters, but I don't think it has. Here is the tree I really want:
Just can't quite swing $1000 for a pre-lit tree. They are usually half price after Christmas though. Still....won't happen. Nothing like traffic and decorating to get you out of the Christmas Spirit! No, not really....I'm still here....loving Christmas and all of it's magic - Oh! and looking forward to our cruise!

I can't believe it is two weeks away. I feel like there is so much that needs to be done between now and then! Let's see....

  • Get a tan

  • Tone up my abs, arms and ....ahem....bootie

  • Get a pedicure

  • Finish Shopping

  • Pictures with Santa

  • etc

  • etc

  • etc

Here are some fun things to look at since I have been so negative in this post!

OH!!!! And to get YOU in the Christmas spirit....If you didn't get to watch the lighting of the Rockafellar Center Christmas Tree, then you didn't get to hear Taylor Swift sing her version of Silent Night. It was so fantastic that I bought the CD. Here ya go!

Braggin' Rights & Christmas Trees

Well, I guess we did it - another year of bragging rights for the Auburn Tigers!

Even with all of the history and the years and years of rivalry, it still amazes me how crazy we all get over this game. I mean, don't get me wrong - I love it! But, I just know how defeated, and let down, embarrassed I would have been if we had lost.

We decided not to go down to Auburn for the game this year. I am a little glad we didn't go and kind of wish we had been there. I know it would have been pure debauchery if we had though, and I wasn't really up for all that! So, all that being said - War Eagle!

Oh - and if you watched the game at home, you probably heard the song "Saturday in Dixie" play several times and especially at the beginning. That song was written and sung by one of Jason's best friends from Selma, Lance Brown. You can hear a clip of the song at: www.SaturdayinDixie.com

On a different note, we put up a bunch of our Christmas decorations yesterday. I think we are the first on the street to have lights up! (Tacky? No, just on the ball!) We went with an artificial tree this year. I still have mixed emotions about it. It was a donatation from Neil and Lisa, so with it's affordability we had to give it a shot! I put it together a few days before Thanksgiving and put the lights on it yesterday. After Christmas, we are probably going to leave it put together and leave the lights on it, put a trash bag around it and leave it in the garage till next year. I think real and artificial are ALMOST equal trouble - I mean at least this year they are. Artificial - you have to store all year, put it together, put lights on it if it is not prelit, then take it back apart. Real - you have to go out and get it, pay a fortune for it only to watch it die, water it, clean up needles a few times a week, then take it down and haul it away. Then there are the good things. Artificial - no watering, no cleaning up pine needles, one time payment - consider it an investment! Or with our situation it was much more affordable being free! Real - kicking off your Christmas Spirit by going to get the tree, the wonderful smell of pine, and of course they just look better. Last year I swore I would never have another real tree. After the watering and the mess and the fact that we bought one about twice the size that we should have. Then it falls over twice - once on top of me - and breaks several very special ornaments. Well, this year is just a test after all. Who knows - next year we may have two trees. One real, one artificial.

Well, here she is - the first of Spring Casual! Yes, the picture is horrible, but the outfit is cute! I cropped out the curtains in the background, but I probably shouldn't have - that way I could brag about finally being finished with them. Or, at least as finished as I plan on being for a while. I need one more panel on each side, but the season doesn't permit for spending on myself. (However, I do plan on trying to stop by Saks today and use a gift card that I have been holding onto forever. I have been feining for a new pair of jeans.) It's wierd - I always ask for gift cards for various gift giving occasions, and then I feel like I have to save them for whatever reason. A rainy day I suppose. Well, it is looking a little like rain today, so I guess that's as good an excuse as any!

I have a birthday party to go to today where I plan on being the best gift giver there. (ha ha? No, really I do) Jason always gives me a hard time for giving people handmade gifts. He says that everyone opens their gifts and thinks, "oh great, another outfit from Anna." (In a sad voice of course, not a happy one.) I kind of feel that way too sometimes, but not today. I know this one is going to be a hit!

I'm trying to reduce my ever growing fabric selection and make things out of what I already have before I start buying new stuff. Time to get some return on the investments I made in that fabric that has been sitting unused on my shelf! (I have also had to buy more shelves at the request of my husband....my insanely unorganized sewing room really gets under his skin!) He's gone today though and it is sew sew sew all day long. I really can't justify organizing this room just yet - too much else to do. Eventually it will get done.....Here's hoping....

Smocking up a storm!

Ok, so I have been a very bad blogger lately - sorry. I have pretty much been bad at everything communication related. Haven't been responding to emails, etc. You know, it's just different now that I'm not getting paid by salary. When I was at work, I could sit around and email all day long and still get paid. Now, if I am emailing, I'm not "working" and not getting paid. So, I guess it is just different working for yourself.....much better, but different.

All that being said, I have been very busy lately. Between getting party orders and Christmas orders filled (and the ones in between) I have been at The Smocking Bird at least two days a week taking classes. First it was smocking, then yoke construction (learning to put my smocked inserts into outfits) and next (today) it is putting the smocked inserts into Tshirts. Monday, I start another class learning to do picture smocking rather than just the geometric designs.

My trunk shows are done for 2007 and they were quite a success - especially since these were the first I'd ever done! I really appreciate all of you who held shows for me and those of you who want to hold one in 2008! I'm so excited about the Spring shows and have lots of goals to be met between now and when they start back up in February. For Spring I would like to have a lot more "off the rack" things available for guests to buy. One, it's easier on me, two, people like to go home with something in their hands. I love love love Spring stuff too. Last night I created my first 2008 outfit....no pictures yet, but it is called "She's My Cherry Pie"! haha! It is a white short sleeved lettuce edge shirt with appliqued cherries with stems on it. The skirt (or shorts - can't decide) are black with little cherries all over it. I am also planning on making smocked tshirts available (we'll see how tonight's class goes)

I can't believe it is time for the holidays already. I'm so excited about decorating for Christmas! Too bad no one will see my decorations this year. I don't think we are doing any Christmas celebrating here at our house.

Oh, more goals....I am going to really work hard at updating my website. I will have to since it will be out of season, but there are other things I want to do.....like have all of my fabric swatches available on the site. It is a lot of work and very time consuming, but will make things better in the long run. Also, I want to get up all of my customer photos. I have several up right now, but I would like for it to be more organized and finally get up everything that everyone has sent me. I know that doesn't sound like much, but the website takes up so much time, I have to almost dedicate an entire day to it. It is also pretty boring - I would much rather be sewing.

Well, that is it for now - I know I say this every time I haven't written in a while, but I promise I will try to do better! Things were so exciting for a while, I actually had something to write about every day, but now it is just work work work!

Oh, and here are some pics of my little angel Niki winning Beauty Night this year! It has really been her year!

Ok, back to the grindstone!

New things.....

Oh it's been so long! So many new things to talk about - so many new things in my life!

Cool Weather, Bicycles, Guitar Hero III, Smocking Classes, trunk shows and more smocking classes!

First things first, I never thought I'd be happy about the cool weather that is on its way. I hate the short days that winter brings and I really hate being cold in general! However, these nice fall days have been so fun lately. Hub and I bought bikes yesterday - only to follow the stationary excercise bike we bought for the workout room. But let me just start by saying the excercise bike is no comparison to the real thing combined with the hills in my neighborhood! Either that, or we are severely out of shape! We took them for a ride yesterday. I wanted to start on the road with no homes on it that leads to our neighborhood park so that no one would really see me when I fell off! Bad idea...I forget that we live on top of a mountain and in addition there was a soccer game yesterday afternoon so there was lots of traffic on that hilly road leading to the park! I was seriously about to die as I was walking my bike up that last hill on the way home - just in time to remember that I left my asthma inhaler in Atlanta! How embarrassing - still a young 27 years old wheezing and sweating up the hill just praying to make it home before my lungs collapsed or having my first "real" asthma attack! I had visions of passing out in front of a neighbors house....I was alone because hub took the long way home (also a bad idea)! Anyway, we rested on the cold concrete driveway for a while and went inside to try out the new Guitar Hero III on Xbox 360. Fun afternoon!

Since writing last I have had two trunk shows and another this week! Busy busy! As much as I love them (and enjoy bringing home some money) I am glad that this week's is my last of the season. It will be nice to take a break and start making some new things for Spring. Although it is a long shot, I would love to be able to offer some new smocked items for next year! I am taking my second round of classes starting next week. I think I am doing pretty well so far and even though each project takes a while, I enjoy doing it and would love to be able to offer them for sale. If nothing else, at least I'll be able to dress my own child in pretty little smocked things!

I had a slow week last week due to just normal errands and things that needed to get done - today is the day though...I have to get to work!

New Patterns!

Oh my gosh I'm so excited! I just got a bunch of new patterns that I can't wait to design for the site! Here is a sampling.....

I can't wait to get started adding these to the site! I will probably wait until November to get started because I plan on being VERY busy with my upcoming trunk shows! I have almost finished up everything from my last show, but I am still waiting on a few pieces of hardware to finish the baby slings. (Which were recently added to the site - I think they'll be a hit!)
Here's a link:

Ok, so this was my break from sewing - back to work!

A trip down memory lane

Today has been the most wonderful day! Besides Auburn losing - again - today has been so much fun for me! At first I was really excited about getting out my fall decorations, but I ran into something else fantastic in the process!

Jason's mom had asked me if we had any of Jason's baby clothes one day while we were sewing. I thought we did not, but I found them today! OMG, they are so precious and in perfect condition! Besides the very 70's era denim jacket, it is all very classic stuff that I can't wait to get my little one in. Some of it will even work for a boy or a girl. Ok, so after I found these little gems, I decided to find my box of baby clothes that I knew consisted mostly of smocked dresses that my mom had made. Way back in the back of the basement closet - JACKPOT! Luckily, they had been carefully wrapped and packed and only one of them has a few little spots on it. There is also one that is an heirloom style and the lace on it has turned but it is almost a tea stained color which makes it look intentional....will probably still let the little baby girl wear it (if there is one...) since there is such a precious little matching bonnet! Oh, I just cried and cried when I found these treasures. Happy cry I guess. Maybe a little sad cry, but what inspiration all of these outfits hold!

Anyway, I washed almost everything and hung it outside in the sun to dry. As soon as Jason gets home and we can take a little trip down memory lane, I am going to hang them in the baby's room closet! ha ha....yes, I did just refer to the "back guest bedroom" as the "baby's room" because I have only recently decided that is what it is going to be.....SOMEDAY! There are a few things left to wash that I am probably going to take to the dry cleaners because I am not sure if they can be washed or not. Better safe than sorry.

Oh, also....funny little thing about these dresses of mine. I'm not sure if my mom was afraid of losing me in a crowd or just wanted to make sure everyone knew who I was, but EVERYTHING has my name or initials either monogrammed, appliqued or smocked on it! Pretty hilarious. There is one though that has only an "L" on it which will be perfect for little Lindley....if she ever exists! Let's hope she does, because she is going to have a lot of beautiful clothes to wear! How proud would I be to see my own little one in the same clothes I wore as a child.

Ok, on a completely different note, I was reminded - yet again - of what wonderful friends I have! Don't worry girls, I never forgot, but it is so nice to be reminded every once in a while! Thank you all for coming to my big debut Thursday evening. You girls made it such a success and fun too! It is so great to have the support of my girls and to know that they are cheering for me in the background and wanting only the best for me and my endeavors. Thank you a million billion times!

The trunk show really was precious. We had a great time setting up and felt like it was the grand opening of a darling little boutique! How proud I was! Great practice too....a few lessons learned. Oh, one in particular - when people order outfits, remember to find out what SIZE they need! Only slightly important, right? Oh well, I was nervous! But hey, practice makes perfect! I have ordered the invitations for my last trunk show of the year and I am making the ones for my next one in October.

Lastly, I have included a link on this post to Bunnycup Embroidery. This is where I like to buy my embroider and applique designs from. I am working on my collection from here and off to a great start! Look through when you have some time (the catalog is almost 300 pages!) and find something you like!

Have a super duper weekend and somebody say a little prayer for Auburn. I'm not too proud to be an Auburn Tiger today. War Eagle anyway!

When it rains...

yep, that's right - it pours! No complaints here, though. If you had asked me two weeks ago how business was, you definitely wouldn't get the same response as you will get today! Before I quit my job, I was swamped with business and dress orders. As soon as I walked out the door, so did the orders! So, I guess maybe needing the break, I started working on some winter projects - knowing that my trunk show was coming up soon. (Like how I mention that in every post? It is a subliminal message to encourage you to have one too! haha!) Now, here it is the end of the month and I'm happy to say that the orders have started flowing again. YEA! I have to admit I was a little worried for a while. What a scary leap of faith going out on my own, but I really think it is going to work out. Who knows, before too much longer I may have a position open for hire! haha - I have my first employee in mind already!

That being said, I did have some help over the past couple of days. My sweet mother in law was here and was a huge help with everything from ideas to labor! I'm very lucky to have a great MIL and to have a good relationship with her. We took a break around lunch time yesterday and went somewhere I have been wanting to go for a while - Whole Foods! I am not sure how many people get a kick out of the grocery store, but we had the best time in there! That place is wonderful. I really wondered what all the hype was about and why the parking lot was completely full every time I drove by, but now I know. How cool! So, Martha Stewart, the next time you call for that crazy ingredient I have never heard of, I will know where to go find it! I swear we spent 20 minutes in the dessert section alone. Their bakery is fantastic! And the gelato - yum! Need a cactus leaf? Whole Foods. Need Ugly Ripe Tomatoes? (No, seriously - that's what they're called) Anyway, a good time was had by all!

Today I am finishing up the project that me and MIL started yesterday. My sweet sis in law ordered an outfit for a newborn baby boy for a shower tomorrow. We started it yesterday thinking we could finish it yesterday. We could have, but with the a/c being out of order until late yesterday evening, the sweat and headaches really hendered that progress. At about 9pm I gave up. I just had to stop and go lay down. I had had enough. But today, that is going to be the first thing I finish and I'm taking it to the post office asap. I know it won't get there by tomorrow, but at least the effort will have been made.

Also, today I am expecting to get in the fabric that I ordered for the Auburn tailgate tablecloth. That is first order of business and whatever happens next happens! Still looking forward to the game this weekend although we have decided not to go. I'm really sad, but with the long weekend J has decided to go to his dad's house to work on a fence they have been building. I guess that is ok - I really need to keep on sewing anyway. We will be down in the next few weeks. This weekend would have been great though - only 88 degrees. Plus it is the first game and people are so excited and almost everyone comes to that one. I hope lots of my little orange and blue Sweet Dreams Designs will be running around that campus on Saturday! Wish I was going to be there to see them!

Countdown to crazy

Good morning! As we speak I am lying in bed with my two sweet doggies enjoying the olden days of no air conditioning! Over the weekend our upstairs a/c finally just quit. J says it froze so we turned it off and let it "thaw" out so we could sleep upstairs last night. The night before we slept on separate couches to keep cool. J's mom is also here so we wanted her to be comfortable as well. Hopefully it will be fixed by the end of the day.

I'm always glad when my M-I-L comes but this time I am especially appreciative! We stayed up till about 12:30 getting things ready for the first Trunk Show coming up on the 13th of Sept. I think today I should be able to get several dresses ready. She helped me by cutting out fabric swatches for my swatch book and sewing on buttons. (some of those tasks that take forever that I have been putting off) Today, we are probably going to go to Streetwise Consignment to look for some old shutters. I am going to try to find a few of them to hinge together to use as a display for some of the clothing at the show. This was yet another great idea from M-I-L! If anyone reading has any other good ideas for displays or anything else related to the show, please post here! I appreciate your help!

To be perfectly honest I am pretty nervous about my first show. Thank God it is at a friend's house....that helps some, but it's a real show! My first debut! Ack! I should have a decent amount of items ready, but it will never be enough. This whole branching out on my own/starting a new business thing has been all trial and error anyway, so I guess I will just have to think of it as a learning experience.

Off to start my day!

Couldn't wait!

Here she is! My little bubble suit I have been working on ALL day! The first one always takes the longest. I think it turned out pretty cute!

Ready for an Auburn Tailgate!

Can't wait to see it on!

Auburn Here I Come!

See? Two days in a row! Now all of you daily checkers can get back in the habit too! Lunch yesterday was delicious and in good company. Surin 280 is very cool for anyone who cares. I have a feeling there will be a GNO dinner there sometime since you can bring your own wine! How fun is that? Yesterday was a good day. Paris was an angel at the vet - only 118 lbs though. I really thought she'd weigh more, but she's only a year old. Lunch was great as I mentioned. Then I still got things done when I got home! OH, and most excitedly I got some new fabric shipped in yesterday that will allow me to finish three projects! Three Auburn projects actually - an orange a blue polka dot skirt, blue polka dot pants, and navy seersucker pants to go with a little boy's Auburn polo! Gotta love those Auburn fans.

I can't believe it is almost football season again. I am about to make a tablecloth for another fellow AU fan's tailgate and it gets me really pumped about tailgating. I wish J and I had a nice big tailgate with cute table cloths, nice Auburn platters and the works. That will probably never happen though and we will continue to join in on other people's tailgates - easier for us, but maybe not as much fun. We probably couldn't afford the expense of it every weekend anyway. Boo. I guess we will be heading down for the first game but unfortunately heading back home before the game starts since it is so late and we have the little ones to think about! Would love to take Miss Paris with us, but probably not to the first one. We will probably wait till it cools down some too.

Oh all this tailgate talk has got me spinning! Here is another blogger that I read pretty often - an AUburn grad and fantastic tailgater! Read here and you will agree with everything she says...remembering those sorority days and thanking the dear LORD that we don't wear heels to the games anymore! But don't even think I haven't been shopping FOUR times for outfits for the games! I do have an array of orange gear to wear to any game in any season...let's just hope we make it down there for a few!

(you should read her....good blogger - and young and an AU alum. Fun craft ideas too)

Ok, so that brings me to what's up today:

Finishing a precious gingham Auburn bubble suit (that I monogrammed last night in orange and attached rick rack - OMG can't wait to finish and post pics!)

Cleaning house. Geez, I'm so dreading this. My usual cleaning days fall on Mondays and Tuesdays, but since coming back from the beach I haven't touched a single cleaning product. J's Nana is coming on Sunday so I have to clean up good for her. She has never seen the house before. I have to clean today because Saturday is going to be very busy. Going to Auburn for cousin Krysta's wedding and delivering a few finished items that morning. I'm not going to say I'm looking forward to making that drive by myself.

All that being said and in total random fashion....I WILL have an AUBURN football party AT MY HOUSE THIS SEASON. There....it has been written in the blog, therefore it is true.

Back to the grindstone...

Well, it has been a long time now, hasn't it! I returned from my anniversary vacation on Sunday and here it is Thursday and I'm just now getting to the blog. It has taken hubby and I both several days to get used to our old schedule...got a little too comfy with daily 2 hour naps while at the beach! We had a great time, but are both happy to be back. I'm so horrible with unpacking....everything in the suitcase is clean (since I washed daily at the beach....obessed???) but we just keep using it like a drawer - pulling undies out every morning and choosing our wardrobe by what's in the bag. Oh, I hate unpacking. Packing too, for that matter.
Ok, so here's what's going on with me. I'm getting ready for my first trunk show
coming up in September which means I am sewing like crazy. Got a few new things
on the site, but working on lots more. The first new thing is the birthday
outfits below...boys and girls. I think they are pretty cute - and simple - but
cute! Click the picture to see it and more pictures on the site!

After many requests, I have also decided to put aprons on the site. Got a new order for a fun one yesterday - pinks and greens! I have also had a few requests for shirts like the green one I made myself. (See previous blog) Though I really had no intentions of selling this item, it has been so popular with my friends it just has to be on the site too! Nothing wrong with that! Click here to purchase:

I also just finished up a little cutie for fall! Not sure if this is heading to the site or not....probably! Why not?

Today I am having lunch with a friend and taking sweet Paris to the vet. Hopefully when I return home I will finish the new bubble suit so I can get pictures of it on the site too. I have got to get back in the swing of blogging. I promise I'll do better. OMG - 105 degrees today! Heaven's to Betsy!

Check your hormones at the door....

It's been one of those weeks...hormonal being an understatement. But don't worry, this isn't going to be one of those writings that brings you down....I'm feeling great tonight. Great enough to stop what I'm doing and tell someone about it. I'm alone - in a good way. It's been a while since I have had three consecutive days alone in my own bed and usually I enjoy the peace and quiet, but not this time. Hubby's gone to his old stomping grounds and I have been bored out of my mind. Seriously...me. The one who always has something to keep them occupied. The one who can always find something to do. Is it because I'm having my lady week, or is it because I'm alone? I'm opting for the first choice because it has been the common theme for my entire week. Tired. Bored. Tired of even creating. Tired of sewing. Tired of pretty much everything. Ok, enough of that negativity....the reason I took time out tonight to write is because I have had the most wonderful evening. Feasting on a gourmet appetizer of garlic bread (not even toasted!) and enjoying Apple Martinis as my main course, I had a fantastic girly evening all of my own. Just me and the girls! I had no idea how much I had needed one of these nights. Me, the pups, a chick flick and a couple of martinis....now that's a good night worth writing about!
I had so wanted to have a roomful of girls here tonight feasting on martinis and movies, but that didn't work out and I guess that's ok, because maybe a night alone is exactly what I needed.

If you are still reading, you know by now, I am rambling and venting and etc.

Funny how nature just has its way of slowing you down and telling you exactly when you need a break. It MAKES you take a break because it doesn't really matter what you are doing you get aggravated and have to walk away. I had that kind of week. One project that totally kicked my butt. One that I have had to walk away from several times. Oh, but don't worry....I'll have plenty of time to take a break next week!

Upcoming is my second anniversary. Hard to believe it's been that long, but in a way it feels like so much longer. Not in a bad way of course, but J and I have been close for so long. Our lives were much different then and so much better now!

I also had such a great visit today from a dear friend that I miss so much. We were finally able to get together with Julie on Thursday and then I was lucky enough to have her visit again on Saturday. EK, I could just love you to pieces! I miss them both so much and wish that they were closer. Old friends are such dear friends...

Ok, so that's my night in a nutshell. A little more Saturday Night Live, a little more Apple Martini, and then off to bed.

And by the way - I like girls.

My GIRLFRIENDS that is! Sorry, I could not resist pulling that line from our very *adult* conversation from last night! Thank you ladies for a fun evening, too many raspberry margaritas, and for being a part of some very interesting Tuesday night nightlife in Birmingham!

Today I'm kind of watching the clock and the phone. I want to get into some crafting and sewing but can't get too busy doing much since I'm picking up Julie at the airport sometime around lunch.

Traci's Apron
Everyone will be proud to know I got all the things on my "to do" list finished and in time for our Tuesday night dinner! (And, girls you know I'll need to see pictures....thanks!) My shirt was a hit too!

Yesterday, I started some other fun little goodies for my $5 bin that will be featured at my first Trunk Show. Pot Holders, Card Wallets (for business cards or credit cards) and we'll see what else develops today and tomorrow. I'll have pictures of these things for you then too....my little wallets are lacking a button right now and cannot be unveiled.

Ok, change in plans....no Julie, no lunch with the girls....heading to The Smocking Bird to begin some BOY Stuff!!!

Many many things...

So much going on this week and it has flown by! I can no longer say TGIF because Fridays really just aren't that special anymore and I'm not relieved by there presence anymore. Every day's a Friday....or a Saturday or Sunday for that matter. Every day is great and full and busy with so many new projects. Speaking of projects....

First project: Finished Ginny and Caroline's adorable Mother/Daughter outfits for them to wear to the family reunion tomorrow! Took pictures, posted to the web, etc etc etc. Could rave about my satisfaction of this project for days! As a matter of fact, I have!

Second project: I began trying my hand at applique this week! Made two cute little wintertime jumpers - yes more girly stuff. I have GOT to get started on some boy things after many many requests. Back to the jumpers...one is for Christmas with a tree and lights and the other is pink corduroy with a little flower in a pot on it. I'm thinking...."Put some SPRING in her step this fall!" as the tag line for that particular outfit....whaddaya think?

Third project : An adorable wintertime flannel in pink with scarves and toboggans on it. And my favorite part....red ball fringe! I think this one will be "SNOW much fun!" Ok, maybe I'm getting a little cheesy, but if it works, it works!

Fourth project: Traci's apron fabric came in yesterday and I have it all cut out ready to be put together, but something else got in the way....see fifth project!
Fifth project: My sewing room fabric came in! YEA! I already have one panel curtain made and one more to go, along with pillows, cushions, a table skirt and whatever else I can make with all of these yummy fabrics! And now, a plug for my new favorite fabric designer: Heather Bailey. She has recently designed the most beautiful fabrics and the best part is they are such wonderful quality! I was so pleased when the fabrics came yesterday. They were so perfect there was no need to even iron or wash them. I will be making clothes out of these fabrics one of these days....maybe Spring.
What are next week's projects, you ask? Finish the Auburn dress for Savannah that I have been meaning to get to for two months. Finish Traci's apron (both must be done by Tuesday for our GNO dinner!! Did someone say margaritas?) Maybe get another panel curtain done. Finish a shirt I started today for myself. Do a little more organizing in the old sewing room!
Ok, so there you have it! That is what has been keeping me busy this week! I'll do better next week about posting...

A work in progress...

I'm so tired this morning for some reason. Gotta get going though - so much to do! I ordered all the fabric to re-vamp my sewing room last night. I ordered several different patterns from the same collection - Heather Bailey's relatively new collection called Fresh Cut. I have been obsessed with it! I'm praying it turns out cute because I just spent a small fortune in fabric.

Went to Clanton yesterday for a bridal tea for cousin Krysta and had a great visit with my granddad (Boopie) before I went home. Mentioned to him my need for a table for cutting patterns and he sweetly offered to either keep his eyes out for one or make me one. Of course I'd rather have something he made me over anything else so I'm going to head to Lowe's sometime this week and buy some legs for the table and take them to him. We also took a look at my grandmother's beautiful old Singer sewing machine. Oh, it was beautiful and he just had it tuned up so it is in great working order! I of course had to mention that I wanted it so that it didn't end up in the hands of someone undeserving. That is one of those inherited items that would have a great deal of meaning to me and probably not so much to others. But, I have to say one more time....it was beautiful!

Anyway, I'm posting pictures (somewhat embarrassing pictures) of my sewing room "before" so I can document my progress. Yes, it's still a mess but it's getting there. We also mysteriously lost wireless internet over the weekend so it's really a mess right now with my cords pulled everywhere.

I'm hard at work this week trying to get some sample items ready for the website and for some upcoming trunk shows that a few sweet friends have volunteered to have for me! I think it is going to be a great way to get my name out, drum up some new business, and hopefully make a few bucks in the process! I think hubby might be getting a little concerned since my money spent on fabric out-weighs the money that is coming in! But, still....I keep buying more!
Today's goal: finish Ginny's Mother/Daughter outfit for her family reunion!

Ever had one of those friends?

Have you ever had one of those type of friends that - just when you think you have totally talked their ear off about the same thing over and over, they still genuinely care and are interested when you talk about it again for the millionth (or billionth) time? I have one of those. I probably have a few, but there is one in particular. Even though I still preface most conversations with "I promise I won't get started talking about this again, BUT...." her response is still....No, please tell me about it! That's a good friend. Thank you friend!

Today was still a productive day even though I slept in til 7am and went to the pool for a few hours. Finished up an order that needs to be delivered on Sunday, did two loads of laundry....and most importantly GOT SOME SUN on this white skin! I can feel the heat radiating off my skin and it feels good! Oh sun....it's been so long!

No pictures for you today....except maybe this one...my birthday girl! Paris turns ONE tomorrow! Happy Day to my little girl!

Who gets this excited?

about fabric? I'm sure there are other people, but no one I know! Anyway, how cute is this? I have huge plans for this pink and brown paisley! Maybe some matching Mother/Daughter outfits? Well, there can be several because I bought the whole bolt!

And, what about this little cutie to match? I bought all they had of it last week which was only a yard, but I'll be back for more! I know this is exciting to only a few, but it was too cute not to share!

Not much exciting today. Oh, but there was some crafting ( as there is most days ) I monogrammed some panties today for a friend to give at a lingerie shower this weekend and they turned out PERFECTLY! I was a little nervous because they are so tiny but they came together without a hitch.

Now, off to being a housewife....my bon bons are calling!
