Ah, relief is in sight!
Sweet Dreams Designs has a new team member- which says a lot considering before today the "team" consisted of one person - me! Today, I had lunch with Judy who will be helping me sew the fall line! She has already put together a few pieces for me and I'm feeling the relief already.
It is so funny to think about ME actually "hiring" someone - if you can call it that. I'd prefer to refer to it as a desperate cry for help! Judy was sent from above- I swear. I put an ad in a local free classified book. The ad ran for a week with one other respondant who was not nearly as qualified, but good enough for what I thought I was looking for at the time. Then comes Judy's email. She owns two industrial machines, sewed for another children's clothing company who recently sent their clothing production overseas as many do. I'm so excited to have met her today and know that right now, she is just what I need - an answer to a prayer.
Over the past couple of days when I have mentioned to people that I have hired someone, they say "wow, so you're really doing this!" or something similar. And yes - I'm really doing it! That is one thing that I have to give myself a little pat on the back for.....I've really done it. I said I was going to and I did - to the surprise of some, I'm sure. Since graduating from Auburn in 2004 I have taken a few different career paths - the longest lasting 2 years. I made my very first piece of clothing back in October 2006. A pillowcase dress made from an old pillowcase of Jason's from college and constructed using a pattern I found off the internet. I used my Singer embroidery/sewing machine which I had bought thinking it would be cool to be able to monogram my own things and stuff for friends. (Not a product on my "favorites list" but it was what I could afford at the time! ) When I made that first pillowcase dress, I was ecstatic! I mean, I had just taken this old thing and made it into something to wear! What a feeling! I hadn't sewn a stitch since 8th grade home-ec and here I had just made a dress! I remember taking it downstairs to Jason and saying - I'm going to sell these. He said (and I quote) "Whatever, you'll get tired of this in a few weeks too and you'll be doing something else." Well, the very next day, I bought some more fabric, made a few samples and emailed pictures to a friend of mine who had a website that featured various artisans selling their items online. Within a few days, I had my own little store on their website! The rest is "history" I suppose! I still have that little old pillowcase dress. It's nice to look and see how far I have come in the past 19 months. I hope I can say the same thing 19 more months from now!
