Wow, am I exhausted!
I have been so frustrated lately because I have been working so hard in this room that makes me miserable. I have mentioned in the past that Jason - not Mr. Neat Freak - walks by this room in disgust because sometimes I get so buried in work that it just gets out of control. Any crafter feels my pain!
So, for the past 3 days I have fully committed myself to cleaning, rearranging and organizing my sewing room. I always say I'm going to do it, but then work gets in the way and I think - why clean when I could be working? No one pays me to clean. But this is, afterall, my workspace - my office - my creative hideaway.....I might as well enjoy being here!
First, I mapped out a plan of how I wanted the room to look - a blueprint of sorts! Yes, for a day or so you couldn't walk in here but as I mentioned, I was fully committed and got it done! I rearranged and moved furniture and boxes and file cabinets etc - against the advice of my doctor. (I had some cancer removed from my back last week which left a rather large unsightly incision that is still rather painful when I use my left arm or my back muscles.) No whining - I did it! ha. I even got down and dirty with the baseboards and wiped them all down!
Anyway, here are pictures of my "new" sewing room! Now, the closet is a completely different story, but we'll tackle that project a different day!
I know, I know....the clock isn't centered. Drives me crazy too, but the nail was already there....
Can you tell I like this space?
I'm done for the day! I'm afraid to go back to work because I might mess it up!

Keely at Mod Melon has done it again!
If you are a member of my email newsletter list, then you know my backgrounds in the past have been a little lacking. I now have a matching newsletter template!
Click here to take a sneak peek!
Only a few changes before I send out my first newsletter, but it looks so pretty! Thanks Keely!

I'm SOOOOOo excited today! As you may know, the Goody's locations around Birmingham are closing. Jason and I went a while back when we first found out a bought a few things. But, yesterday we were having a fun Sunday out - trips to Lowe's and Walmart - and saw a lady (it was so hot bless her heart) holding one of those huge signs. "Goody's going out of business sale. Up to 80% off - all store fixtures on sale!" SO, today I thought I would take my chances and run in to see what store fixtures they had on sale. I need some display racks for my booth at the Cottontails Village Show in March. I had already priced my entire booth set up and it was going to be around $500. That included a cash register. Well, I look around and there are plenty of the standard 4-way and 2-way chrome racks. Then, I came across a GEM! A beautiful 4-way rack in off white with the neatest wooden base in this really cool design. They were the Ashley Judd Collection racks. The price tag said $65 (a good deal) but then I saw a sign stating that all store fixtures were an additional 50% off. So, I had to ask of course to make sure and the store manager said "Well, they are actually only $20". BINGO! Sold - I'll take three!
Well, they are big and heavy but luckily on casters. I called Jason and he stopped by and loaded all of them up in his truck (two in his, one in mine). Then he says - "$20? Are you sure you don't need any more?" Well, if he thinks I do then, SURE! I'll take one more.
SO, I got 4 4-way racks today for $80! My display for Cottontails is DONE! What a glorious feeling. I wish I had pictures to show you, but I will definitely do a before and after post when I paint them. I am planning on painting them the appley/sage green from my logo and having my sweet mother in law paint lavendar crowns on each side. Then, maybe the Sweet Dreams Designs monogram in the center SDD. It will be so cute! I know my booth will be a hit. These racks will allow me to showcase 16 designs! And honestly, that should be plenty.
I confirmed my samples/prototypes today with the manuf. and it will take a while, but at least I've gotten it underway! She says that I need to have everything approved by October to insure that everything is ready by Feb. 1. The show is in March so I figure Feb 1 is the safest deadline. I have two samples coming. If they look good I may moved forward with more. But I figured to start with two is good.
It is so blazing hot in my mini sweat shop. I have got to go to bed for no other reason than to cool off. Night!

It's been a busy week! I can tell that show season has finally started and is off to a great start! In the past week and a half I have had three shows and I have another one coming up this Saturday, as well as two the following week. It has been busy since Judy has been off for the entire month of July but she'll be back in business soon and I'll be happy to have her back!
There have been so many things that I have wanted to stop and write about in the past several days and just haven't been able to take the time to write them. One, being a major project that I have been working on in order to get ready for Spring and Cottontails Village (which I still haven't registered for - another thing on the to do list!) I believe I have finally found a manufacturer that will produce my items on a small scale! There are a few unfortunate things that the budget just won't allow for - example: It's entirely too expensive to have my fabrics shipped to the manufacturer so I am using one of their sources for fabrics. While still nice, they are not the funky designer prints I am so crazy about! But, I have decided maybe it would be best to use their sources for solids, ginghams, chambrays, cords etc. Meanwhile, Judy and I can be here in Alabama cranking out the outfits with the funky designer prints!
It has been really cool starting to work with this company and figure out what all goes into clothing manufacturing. One, I have been able to come up with my own designs. Things I don't have patterns for. It's so neat to sketch something out in the hopes of it coming to life! I'm not going to count my chickens before they hatch though - I have not even gotten close to seeing a prototype yet and don't know how soon that will be arriving.
Second, I have found a fantastic new source for embroidery blanks. Not the run of the mill kind that you see at every shop in town, but very trendy cotton blanks that I know will be a hit this spring. One cool thing - everything they sell is white and dyable! SOOOooo - if I get really brave I'll be dying to match my funky designer prints that I keep raving about!
That brings me to exciting item #3....I have picked out several awesome fabrics for the Spring 2009 line! Yes, I know - it is unreal to think about designing a spring line when it is not even fall yet. BUT, truth be told, I'm actually behind on that! I should have been designing it this time last year so that I could have a photoshoot this summer and that way all the invitations, catalogs, mailers, etc would be ready in plenty of time.....unlike this fall when everything was up-to-the-minute. However.....
......item #4.....my invitations using the new fall pictures turned out AMAZING! Unfortunately, I'm not really sure how to upload a PDF file to this blog to show you how great they looked. But you'll have to trust me - they are awesome!
On a personal note, Jason and I have booked a trip to New Orleans for our anniversary this year! I wasn't really sure about the destination of choice at first, but I'm really excited about it now. One of my sis-in-laws and her husband are going with us. We have made plans for all kinds of fun things to do....now I just need to sell some clothes to be able to afford the trip! (Thank GOD for Southwest's $29 fares!)
OH - and on a completely RANDOM note - I have a new tv show that I LOVE! Ashley Paige: Bikini or Bust ! Comes on TLC. I was introduced to it by my sister in law a few weeks ago and I'm so glad I watched it! I never watch TLC so I would have missed it if it weren't for her! Anyway, it's a little cheesy but fun to watch considering we are in the same line of work. She designs bikinis and I find myself running into some of the same issues that she does. Minus the $4000 rent bill and having my designs at L.A. Fashion Week! Anyway, give it a chance - even Jason enjoyed watching it with me!
That's it for this minute - I could babble on for a while longer considering I have so much going on right now....but it's working on bedtime.
OMG - another thing on my list of excitement - I have just spent a fortune in the past month on the MOST awesome patterns for Spring! YEA! My weaknesses are clear: Fabric & Clothing Patterns

I have made several of these for myself and one for my BFF and each time I wear mine I get so many compliments! I even had a stranger stop me at Do Dah Day and ask, "Where did you get your shirt?" Now, THAT is a compliment! Of course I'm full of pride when I say....."Oh, I made it!" Too bad I didn't have them listed on the site then.......but they are available now!
I named this top after Emily, the mom of Truitt and Mary Sanford, who was kind enough to model with her daughter for me at the photoshoot. She loved the top claiming it was very comfortable and I agree! How cute would this top be when worn with your daughter in a matching dress and your son in a matching tie! Well, some may consider it a little "much", but I think it would be precious! Now, let's just see if we can get Dad in one of those matching ties too!

Yesterday, Jason was out of town and I was completely finished with all outstanding orders so I decided it was a good time to get started on my bedroom redo that I had bought fabric for several months ago! So far, I only have the duvet cover done, but it is amazing what a nice change it is already. Even hubby was impressed when he came home to a new bedroom with no clean laundry covering the bed!
The fabrics are from Amy Butler's "Belle" collection. It is not actually home decor weight fabric, but I love it and it matches my window treatments already!
Duvet cover done....2 Euro Shams, 2 Throw Pillows to go! Oh, and covered cornices for the windows....that is if Jason ever makes those cornices he's promised. I'm not holding my breath.

Here are a few photos from my booth at Mtn. Marketplace. We didn't have a whole lot of room to work with, but I made the most of the space I had! It was hard to cram the whole Fall line onto that rack, but I made it work! You can also see how my new vinyl banner turned out....I got it from Now and Forever Creations for only $45 including shipping! I thought that was a pretty good price!

No plans today for the 4th.....just finished up the Fall Brochure/Invitation and thought I'd head on over to "blog" a little! It's been a while since I've written just for the sake of writing.
I have finally finished up with all the orders from Spring and officially removed most Spring/Summer items from the site and filled it with all new Fall stuff! It looks fantastic if I do say so. Next week begins the Fall Shows and as of right now the calendar is not as full as I'd like it to be at this point. I do have three shows in the next two weeks, but would love at least 3 more before the end of July. I keep reminding myself of last season when everyone started asking to book all at once. I hope that when everyone sees how great the fall line is, that the calendar will start filling up!
My first show is in Alex City, at the home of a friend. It is a show that I always look forward to. It's always fun to see returning customers and you start to feel like you know the people you are making clothes for! Two days later I'll travel to Rome, GA to Barnsley Gardens Resort for a Member Trunk Show. This is a new show for me and I'm excited to see what is to come. On the 17th, I'll be in Mtn. Brook, AL at the home of my college roommate....this is a first time show for her and hopefully not the last. Then comes August when I head to Atlanta!
As I sit here and type this I am noticing the jiggling under my arms and realize I didn't go to the gym almost all of June! Geez.....too much time in front of the computer this past month. Not enough movin' and shakin'! Hopefully now that the Fall line is ready, the catalog is complete and shows are starting, there will be more time for trips to the gym. In the meantime, I need to head downstairs and hop on my bike!
Another thing left ignored was my house....I need to commit a full day to cleaning house. I always feel like when I am cleaning or at the gym I am wasting time that could be spent at work, but I guess I can't work all the time. Like now, for example! That being said, I have GOT to go get some work done around this place! And get some things done before another cookout tonight. Happy 4th!

There are 8 choices....trust me, it was hard to narrow it down to just 8! The photo had to be a certain size, orientation, etc for it to work in the spot it will be placed, so that helped me narrow it down a little!
To place your vote, just leave a comment with the photo of your choice. (You can reference them by number 1-8 top to bottom, or you can describe the child and outfit....or both to be on the safe side!)Please leave your comments asap so I can get the site completely set up for Fall! While you are at it, check out the new fall line.....it's almost completely up on the site!
