Where it all happens
Thought you might be interested to see where it all goes down behind the scenes of Sweet Dreams Designs!
I took a few pictures the other day after some minor rearranging in the sewing room. Hopefully one of these days I'll look back on this humble beginning from my fancy office building! haha....

Didn't know I was gourmet
Chicken Calypso With Island Peas and Rice
Generally, I consider myself a pretty good cook. However, most nights consist of scraping our cupboard to come up with something for dinner due to my hatred of grocery shopping. Most meals end up ok, we have a few favorites. Now, we have a new one. I have always loved stopping by the Simple Meals counter at Publix to taste whatever that week's meal is. On occasion I'll buy the stuff to make the meal and have always been pleased. This week, I was blown away by my kitchen skills! Even hubby, who never raves about my cooking - EVER - loved this meal and wasn't afraid to say it! This meal is worth the trip to the grocery store and will give you a chance to try something new. I served it with a side of plantains - something we've never had - and they were super easy and delish! It is made with boneless skinless chicken thighs as well, which is something I normally steer clear of, but I think I've been converted!
Anyway, I rarely write about things like this, but it was too good not to share. Serve it with some Red Stripe beer and you're back on your honeymoon to Jamaica!
Now click the recipe name for the list and GO to the grocery store!

Sweet Dreams Designs at Mountain Marketplace!
I applied a couple of months ago after I was asked to participate in Mountain Marketplace at Bluff Park United Methodist Church in Hoover, AL. Today, just randomly looking around at things on the internet, I decided to check on the progress of the fair. I knew they were making their selections for the fair soon, but hadn't heard back from them yet. Imagine my surprise when I saw the Sneaky Giraffe Trio on the Marketplace homepage! I'm THRILLED! And, of course, a little overwhelmed. I actually applied to be in the fair displaying Thirtyone Gifts because I knew I wouldn't have much time to have a whole lot ready for the fair since I 'd be working on the fall line. I guess since they contacted me about Sweet Dreams Designs, that is what they went with - WHICH IS GREAT! I'm really excited! This definitely makes me want to get upstairs and get to work- so here I go!

Gotta love Alabama....
I do have a few fun new things to write about. Due to several requests - NAP MATS are on their way! They had been suggested in the past, but it seemed so complicated. My skills have come a long way since then so when I got another request I decided to go for it! Especially since my fall line is on its way and nap mats go great for "back to school"!
Another fun thing is, with the help of a new "designer friend", the fabrics for my Fall Line have been selected! I was about two seconds away from posting the fabrics on this blog this morning, but I had to resist. I think I'll at least wait another month before the big reveal. That will give you something to look forward to!
Now, I have to brag a little! The outfit pictured at right is one I'm pretty proud of. Not that it's that different or unusual, but it just kind of came from nowhere. An outfit to play in was ordered - nothing specific - I love those customers that say "I like this fabric, I like this applique, I need something for her to play in, just make something cute!" So, this is what I came up with. I guess the part that made it special is that there was no pattern (except for the pantaloon). I just kind of made it up and it worked perfectly! I think it is perfect for play too - still cute and dressy, but since it's made from a soft cotton tshirt it is comfy. The pantaloons, which are knee length, keep undies from showing when she's playing!
Now, for more snuggling by the fire before I go to work this morning!

A time for rest...
My time for rest is not necessarily going to be today - however, I'm beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel, so my time for rest is coming! After 4 weeks of hard work - including 2 more parties - I am finally finishing up my largest party ever! In record time too, I might add. It feels so good to have accomplished so much. Last night I was looking at the stacks of folded clothes, ready for shipment, and really had to sit back for a minute and think....I MADE all of that stuff! Sometimes I don't even think about it. Sometimes it's my job. But every once in a while it really amazes me that I'm able to do this. I thank God so often that I have been blessed with this ability. Not only the ability to sew, but the ability to work at home and try to achieve this dream I'm working toward. I thank God that I LOVE my job. People ask all the time if I get burned out from sewing (usually 12-16 hours a day) and my answer is always no. Granted, I was just saying last night that I would love a day when I had NOTHING that I HAD to do, but that's just not realistic! Even if I did have a day with nothing to sew, I would have a house to clean, clothes to wash and chores to do. As they say, a woman's work is never done!
Yesterday, I did take a little break to enjoy the gorgeous weather that we had. Of course that weather is gone now - 70+ degrees yesterday and it's supposed to be 28 tomorrow! I took a few pictures of the first blooms of spring. They'll be gone before you know it. Our bridal wreath spirea and our forsythia is blooming- I also walk around the yard almost every day to check on the progress of our daffodils, iris and tulips, which should start blooming any day.
Now, in order to finally see that day of rest, I must get back to work! I'll finish up the big party today, finish up the Clanton party by Sunday/Monday, and hopefully have the Hoover party finished for the most part by Friday. Good luck to me!
