Congratulations Caroline!

Thanks to all who participated in the First Quarter Photo Contest! The contest was a HUGE success and I can't wait to get started on the next one! There were tons of votes for each participant and it was a really close race.

Caroline of Westerville, Ohio is our winner and will receive a $20 gift certificate to Sweet Dreams Designs!

Since there were so many votes for each child, I am awarding each one with a coupon for 10% OFF their next order!

If you would like to particpate in the next Photo Contest, just email a photo of your child wearing an outfit from the current Sweet Dreams Designs line! The next contest will end in late June and the winner will be announced no later than July 1st! You are welcome to enter more than one photo and I will choose the best one to enter into the contest. Depending on the success of this next contest, we may decide to hold it monthly rather than quarterly! I would also like to be able to award a boy and a girl winner, so come on boys! Let's see you modeling your Sweet Dreams Design!

Thanks again for entering or voting! Have a great week!

I took a few pictures the other day after some minor rearranging in the sewing room. Hopefully one of these days I'll look back on this humble beginning from my fancy office building! haha....

Didn't know I was gourmet

Chicken Calypso With Island Peas and Rice

Generally, I consider myself a pretty good cook. However, most nights consist of scraping our cupboard to come up with something for dinner due to my hatred of grocery shopping. Most meals end up ok, we have a few favorites. Now, we have a new one. I have always loved stopping by the Simple Meals counter at Publix to taste whatever that week's meal is. On occasion I'll buy the stuff to make the meal and have always been pleased. This week, I was blown away by my kitchen skills! Even hubby, who never raves about my cooking - EVER - loved this meal and wasn't afraid to say it! This meal is worth the trip to the grocery store and will give you a chance to try something new. I served it with a side of plantains - something we've never had - and they were super easy and delish! It is made with boneless skinless chicken thighs as well, which is something I normally steer clear of, but I think I've been converted!

Anyway, I rarely write about things like this, but it was too good not to share. Serve it with some Red Stripe beer and you're back on your honeymoon to Jamaica!

Now click the recipe name for the list and GO to the grocery store!

A new look for SDD

New Hang Tag

I'm so excited! I am working on a new look for the Sweet Dreams Designs website! It is not live yet, but will be soon...hopefully this week. It is a much more updated look - one that I would have liked to have in the beginning but didn't know if it was worth the money it costs to have it done! I think now that it is. In the beginning I really didn't know where this venture was going to take me, but it has taken me to exactly the right place so it is time for a little upgrade! I have been working with Keely at Mod Melon. She does a wonderful job and her designs are great! The one that I chose is a limited edition and has a lot of neat features. It has a buttons on the homepage that lead directly to my newsletter signup, new arrivals, my blog, as well as trunk show information! The new site also features one of my little models on the homepage. My hope is to coordinate the winner of the photo contest with the photo on the homepage - I think that would be pretty cool, but not sure if is possible! Keely also made matching hangtags and business cards for me. Of course it may be a while before I use them since I just ordered more of my old ones, but I am excited about them nonetheless! Keep checking in on the site in the next several days and hopefully the new look will be up soon!

Knock your socks off!

I finally did it! Compiled a "semi organized" list of the available applique choices in my ginormous library of appliques! Check it out HERE!

Sweet Dreams Designs at Mountain Marketplace!

I applied a couple of months ago after I was asked to participate in Mountain Marketplace at Bluff Park United Methodist Church in Hoover, AL. Today, just randomly looking around at things on the internet, I decided to check on the progress of the fair. I knew they were making their selections for the fair soon, but hadn't heard back from them yet. Imagine my surprise when I saw the Sneaky Giraffe Trio on the Marketplace homepage! I'm THRILLED! And, of course, a little overwhelmed. I actually applied to be in the fair displaying Thirtyone Gifts because I knew I wouldn't have much time to have a whole lot ready for the fair since I 'd be working on the fall line. I guess since they contacted me about Sweet Dreams Designs, that is what they went with - WHICH IS GREAT! I'm really excited! This definitely makes me want to get upstairs and get to work- so here I go!

Gotta love Alabama....

Pantaloon Playset (2)
Originally uploaded by lesteal624
Seriously, two days ago I was in the yard with the pups basking in the sun talking about what a beautiful day it was. It was in the mid 70's for goodness sake! Yeah, well....it's snowing today. Gotta love Alabama! Paris loves it - we just mulched our flower beds day before yesterday so the snow looks really pretty laying on top of the mulch. Not anymore! Paris thought it looked fun to play in and bounced around in every bed - hopefully not breaking those pretty daffodils, iris and tulips I wrote about in my last post! If nothing else, it is a nice morning to sit in front of the fire and write a little!

I do have a few fun new things to write about. Due to several requests - NAP MATS are on their way! They had been suggested in the past, but it seemed so complicated. My skills have come a long way since then so when I got another request I decided to go for it! Especially since my fall line is on its way and nap mats go great for "back to school"!

Another fun thing is, with the help of a new "designer friend", the fabrics for my Fall Line have been selected! I was about two seconds away from posting the fabrics on this blog this morning, but I had to resist. I think I'll at least wait another month before the big reveal. That will give you something to look forward to!

Now, I have to brag a little! The outfit pictured at right is one I'm pretty proud of. Not that it's that different or unusual, but it just kind of came from nowhere. An outfit to play in was ordered - nothing specific - I love those customers that say "I like this fabric, I like this applique, I need something for her to play in, just make something cute!" So, this is what I came up with. I guess the part that made it special is that there was no pattern (except for the pantaloon). I just kind of made it up and it worked perfectly! I think it is perfect for play too - still cute and dressy, but since it's made from a soft cotton tshirt it is comfy. The pantaloons, which are knee length, keep undies from showing when she's playing!

Now, for more snuggling by the fire before I go to work this morning!

A time for rest...

My time for rest is not necessarily going to be today - however, I'm beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel, so my time for rest is coming! After 4 weeks of hard work - including 2 more parties - I am finally finishing up my largest party ever! In record time too, I might add. It feels so good to have accomplished so much. Last night I was looking at the stacks of folded clothes, ready for shipment, and really had to sit back for a minute and think....I MADE all of that stuff! Sometimes I don't even think about it. Sometimes it's my job. But every once in a while it really amazes me that I'm able to do this. I thank God so often that I have been blessed with this ability. Not only the ability to sew, but the ability to work at home and try to achieve this dream I'm working toward. I thank God that I LOVE my job. People ask all the time if I get burned out from sewing (usually 12-16 hours a day) and my answer is always no. Granted, I was just saying last night that I would love a day when I had NOTHING that I HAD to do, but that's just not realistic! Even if I did have a day with nothing to sew, I would have a house to clean, clothes to wash and chores to do. As they say, a woman's work is never done!

Yesterday, I did take a little break to enjoy the gorgeous weather that we had. Of course that weather is gone now - 70+ degrees yesterday and it's supposed to be 28 tomorrow! I took a few pictures of the first blooms of spring. They'll be gone before you know it. Our bridal wreath spirea and our forsythia is blooming- I also walk around the yard almost every day to check on the progress of our daffodils, iris and tulips, which should start blooming any day.

Now, in order to finally see that day of rest, I must get back to work! I'll finish up the big party today, finish up the Clanton party by Sunday/Monday, and hopefully have the Hoover party finished for the most part by Friday. Good luck to me!
