1st Spring Pre-order Option

As I mentioned yesterday, I will be blogging a new outfit (or maybe two!) each day and taking Spring PreOrders at a discounted price. I am discounting these items in order to encourage early ordering and beat the rush!

The first item is from the "Fresh as a Daisy" Collection. The Heather, is a ruffle halter tunic with jumbo ruffle capris. The Fresh as a Daisy Collection features fabric from Heather Bailey's new Pop Garden Fabric collection and is so cute, funky, and well.....fresh as a daisy!

Click the photo above for a larger view, and don't forget that pre-orders receive a 20% discount! Shipping is $5.00.

Spring Pre-Orders anyone?

I've already gotten a huge response to the spring line - like none before! This is going to be the best season yet - and yes, I say that every season, but it just keeps getting better!
Due to the huge popularity of many of the items already, I am going to open the option of pre-season ordering. Each day, I will blog a new item, along with pricing and sizing info. If you like the item in the picture, there will be a link to follow to email me and place your pre order. All preorders will be discounted 20%! Due to this discount, I will not be taking custom orders. The item you order will look exactly like the one in the picture....no custom fabrics, etc. In other words, WYSIWYG - What you see is what you get! However, you may request monogramming for the regular $7.50 charge. Preorders must be placed by December 1 to receive the 20% discount. In addition, these items may not ship until January 1.

Please stay tuned to the blog over the next few weeks to get updates and pricing on the fantastic spring line!

Thinking Spring in 40 Degrees!

Over the next several days, I will be posting pictures from the Spring 2009 Collection here to the blog. That is, if I can keep myself from posting them all at once! I only have a handful of them right now, but will have the entire album on Monday. For any moms of the models who may be reading - the online gallery will be ready in just a few days! April promised the pictures would be ready in two weeks - but boy is she fast! Sunday night after the shoot, she was already sending me sneak peeks!

Pictured here is Madeline R., age 4. Madeline is the daughter of a friend I've known for years from school days in Auburn, however this was the first time I had the pleasure of meeting sweet Madeline! She was such a joy to photograph and play "dress up" with! I think she enjoyed it too because she asked to stay "just a little bit longer" after the last outfit had been photographed! Sweet! I can't get over her porcelain skin - what a beauty!

The dress she is wearing is our Peasant dress made from the Party Dot fabric collection. The Party Dot fabric collection consists of three coordinating prints - Dots, Watermelon Check and Kiwi Check. The peasant dress is available up to size 8Y, has puffed sleeves, elastic neckline and ruffled hem. Pricing will be available soon, and I'm seriously considering taking pre-orders for the items I post here to the blog, so if you see something you are interested in and would like to have it before anyone else - email me HERE!

Now, after all this talk of spring, I'm about to go put on something warm and snuggle up to the sewing machine!

My fancy new T-Mobile G1 phone

Looky what I got! Introducing the T-Mobile G1 I got this last week on the 20th after using an old school cell phone and feeling pretty nerdy for a while. This thing is so awesome - I haven't used all the bells and whistles yet because time has not allowed me to read the manual yet. It is powered by google and connected to my google account - so all emails, calendar entries, contacts, etc. are all sent to my phone straight from Google! Way cool, huh? I also made myself a cute little case for it out of one of my new spring fabrics - a pretty pink and brown damask. Didn't even use a pattern and it turned out perfectly! I may put a tutorial on here for how to make one if I ever find the time to make another one for demo purposes!

OK, three blogs in 24 hours - that's enough for me today! Enjoy the pics!

Trendy in Birmingham

One more sneak peek for spring! This is Madison, age 4, also Judy's granddaughter. I love this picture because it doesn't even look like downtown Birmingham. It is so urban and hip! It's amazing what the right photographer can do for your products and I am a huge believer that good product photos sell your items themselves!
If you need a good one, you need to check out April with Once in Every Life photography. I literally handed the child and the clothes over to her and walked away. She did the rest and what a job she did! I am on the edge of my seat waiting for more pictures from her and I can't wait to show them off to you! We should have them in about two weeks, so I'll keep ya posted! Until then, enjoy the few I've posted and get ready for Spring 09!

Valentine's Day Preview

Recently on Twitter, I have begun following Lisa at Creative Writing Studios. She has an awesome business connecting retail buyers (boutiques, etc) and sellers (design entrepeneurs like me). Anyway, it is a really cool idea and I decided to take part in a Valentine's Day themed catalog that she is putting together to distribute to over 800 retailers! To buy a spot for this catalog, you must pay an entry fee, which I did. However, I purchased my spot on a weekend when she was doing a drawing for a free entry and I won! I am so excited because I have never won anything so this is pretty cool for me. The deadline for entry is Nov. 3. Luckily, with the photoshoot being yesterday, I was able to get a great picture of my product for submission.

Pictured below is Katie, which is Judy's granddaugther. She is wearing a pink and brown damask twirl skort and puffed sleeve appliqued top. These twirl skorts are going to be insanely popular for spring - at least that is the feeling I get so far! They are so neat because they have full ruffled shorts underneath the ruffled skirt. Your active little girl doesn't have to be quite so prim and proper in this outfit! She can twirl and twirl and no undies will show! Now, any mom would be happy about that!

Work reaps reward

There have been so many things going on the past several weeks that I have wanted to write about but haven't had time due to the 6 trillion outfits that needed to be sewn before today. I wanted to tell all about my first trip to the Atlanta Apparel Mart, getting ready for the photo shoot, etc. etc. Well, the day finally came today and ready or not, it was photo time!

We started the day at 11am with Taylor K. - a 3 year old little cutie! She was easy as pie to work with and was a good sign of what was to come the rest of the day. We had 13 kiddos today and it was a breeze! Needless to say I am exhausted though. I know April of Once in Every Life Photography is too - she had a shoot before us at 8:30 and after us at 4pm!

Jason and I watched a movie tonight so we could finally spend some time together. I've been so busy lately and he has been hunting every weekend so we haven't seen each other much. However, I fell asleep 15 minutes into the movie and here I sit - wide awake at 12:30 am. Apparently April was up too because she sent me a few sneak peek photos from today's shoot!

There will be more to come of course, but I couldn't resist sharing a few. I had a great response today from the line and the very colorful fabrics I've chosen for spring! The precious models certainly don't hurt!

Funky Flower Props

Just a quickie - I found these cute GIANT DAISIES to use for the photoshoot on Sunday! They are so "springy" and funky, I just love them! I would post a picture here instead of making you click the link, but the site has a no right click function so I can't save the pic to my computer. Boo.

Anyway, I think these are going to look really cute in the middle of historic downtown Birmingham and my new funky spring fabrics!

It is almost 1am and I have been nonstop all afternoon. My eyes are so heavy that they have almost shut while running the sewing machine, so I think it is time to lay in bed. Just poured a glass of wine and have the whole house to myself! Time to relax a little.

OH - AND THE CONTEST VOTING IS OVER! ANY POSTS AFTER MIDNIGHT FRIDAY WILL NOT BE COUNTED!

Voting is wrapping up! Relief in sight...

Well, I finished and shipped off my FINAL Fall party orders today. I didn't hit my 4 week promise date, but 5 weeks isn't too bad I guess considering I had three shows in 4 days and had to get them all done in 4 weeks!

Anyway, I am really feeling a bit of weight off my shoulders with that being done, however there are still more orders to work on and more coming in. My sigh of relief was only a brief one since I had to immediately start sewing for Spring. Got 5 tops finished today after I got the Fall Party shipped. They turned out really cute and I can't wait to show some sneak peeks! I have also added an "accessory" to the line that you can mix and match with different outfits. It is SOOOooo cute and was a totally unplanned last minute addition that I think is really going to make a lot of difference. It really adds a bit of funk and sass to the already fun outfits I have planned for the upcoming season! Was that a good tease? I'm not going to leave you waiting too long....as soon as I have the photo session, I plan on sharing some photos instead of waiting until January like I usually do.

The photo contest has been a lot of fun as always! It is always funny to see you guys vote - I'm onto some of you, you multiple voters! Do 18 month olds have computer access these days?! ha ha ha.....Aw, it's all in good fun! Voting will end tomorrow (Friday) evening and the winner will be announced either over the weekend or by Monday. Get your votes in now! Be sure to pass along the blog address so you can get some legit votes in, cheaters, cheaters, pumpkin eaters!

Where's my order?

Where have I been, you ask? Scattered to say the least. The past couple of weeks have really been nuts and have presented challenges left and right.

The end of September brought several meetings for the March of Dimes Signature Chefs Auction, which I was on the volunteer committee for. The event was October 2nd, and turned out well. We had lots more silent auction items than we originally thought we would thanks to these girls! I had a good time doing this, my first volunteer experience in a while. Wish I had been more involved and will definitely do again!

In the not so happy news, between Judy and I, we have had three machines go to the repair shop in the past couple of weeks. Obviously, for two gals who sew for a living this creates a problem. Luckily, we are back in business now. In addition, ALL of my product photos on the website were wiped out. Yep, just disappeared! Talk about a headache. It was a real pain in my a** getting them all back up but they are back. I think there are only two missing right now. Here's why....Flickr.com completely deleted my account without notifying me. Why? Because I was breaking a rule I didn't know existed. When I posted my items for sale from the sample sale, I created an album on flickr with all of the sizes and prices on the photos. Apparently they thought I was trying to run an e-commerce store from their site and didn't like that. I would have known this if I had read the terms and conditions. But seriously, how often do you read those? Whatever.....I'm not bitter.

Next, I have been "helping" plan our 10 year high school reunion which is coming up on November 1st. Stupidly, I volunteered myself to make a booklet full of questionnaires filled out by classmates - including their high school photo and current photo. I thought it was a great idea at the time and really felt like we needed something special to take away from the reunion. That was until less than 20 of my classmates decided to participate and September flew by like a jet plane. Here it is October 12th and I probably have 15 responses to the questionnaire (including mine) and less than two weeks to get it done.

And, last but not least and probably most importantly, I have been struggling to get ready for our Spring 2009 photoshoot which is October 26th. My plan to cut and sew (with Judy's help) 85 +/- garments before that date is exploding in my face. ****Speaking of Judy, seriously, I don't know what I'd do without her**** In addition, I have had 3 models drop out to date. I am pretty sure we have replacements, but it is aggravating nonetheless - especially since some of their outfits were already sewn. Say your prayers that we can get all of this done in time.

Anyway, with all of this said, please accept my apologies if your order was a week or two late getting to you. The Fall Line has really exceeded my expectations and I thank you all for that and for your patience! In order to make sure that everyone has received their orders on time, or as close to on time as possible, I have quit taking new orders until the 26th. We will begin shipping again at that time. I hate to close the shop down, and really pray that it doesn't hurt business in the long run, but to take care of my current customers, I really feel that it must be done.

On a brighter note, I have received my first manufactured garment from my manufacturer! I am so pleased. Also, I have new labels that were created for me there - actual WOVEN labels that won't fade in the wash and are SO pretty.

I've said before, and I'll say again - I have been really lucky with my manufacturing experience so far. I have read dozens of horror stories, but I have been really happy! I'm sure there is a place where I could get a better price, with more fabric selection, but if it ain't broke..... Plus, on such a small scale, there aren't that many companies that would even work with me. I was lucky enough to find one that would. ALSO - since I am so insane right now and planning Spring so late (I'm about a season behind and have been since the beginning.....just now starting to catch up) I have already started having some samples made for Fall 2009. I'm thrilled with the results so far - received my samples last week with my Spring 09 order. Samples included two shirts and a pair of pants. There are still some adjustments that need to be made to make it perfect, but at least I have a head start on the game.

My goal is to be at the Atlanta Market by 2010. Speaking of - I am heading to Atlanta tomorrow to check out the Apparel Mart for that very reason. Just walking it this time. Definitely necessary to get an idea of what it's all about, look at different Sales Rep companies, check out booth displays, etc, etc, etc. I'm staying with my BFF and we are going together on Monday and Jason's mom is coming on Tuesday to go. Probably for a half day each.

Ok, it needs to be mentioned that it is now 4am. Apparently my body is only used to getting about 5 hours of sleep and it has already had that tonight. I shot out of bed at about 2:45am and was literally wide awake. We went to Buffalo Wild Wings last night to watch that horrible Auburn/Arkansas game and were home in bed by 9:30! I feel myself starting to crash now even though I have already had my morning Dew. Diet dew, that is.
